We would like to welcome you to our Intermediate classroom.  Your child will be involved in activities throughout the day that will enrich their senses, strengthen fine motor skills and develop early concepts of print, which are essential for future reading and writing skills.  We will try to focus on developing their attention span as well as listening skills which accounts for some of the limitations in their capacity to reason and solve problems.  A large part of our curriculum will also center on social and emotional growth.  This component will introduce feelings vocabulary, recognizing and learning to control anger, problem solving and friendship skills.

Our classroom will travel to the Bornhava Preschool Specialized Early Childhood Center once per week to participate in their morning activities.  The classrooms are involved in shared activities.  During these times the children from "Ripen" provide age appropriate role models for social skills such as sharing, taking turns, helping each other, initiating interactions with other children and participating in make believe play activities.  This program is very important for the integration of learning and development for both the typical child and the special needs child.

Each month's activities will be coordinated with the following themes:

September:                Welcome to School/Getting to Know You
October:                    Colors/Feelings/Fall
November:                 Healthy Living/Happy Harvest
December:                 Seasonal Celebrations
January:                    Winter Wonderland
February:                   Friendship/Nursery Rhymes
March:                        Dinosaurs/Pets
April:                          Spring Fling
May:                          The Farm/The Zoo
June:                         Community Helpers/Transportation
July:                          Summer Fun
August:                     Under The Sea

Our weekly activities will be posted on the bulletin board outside the classroom.

Our goal for the children is that every child develops a feeling of self-worth by using developmentally age appropriate activities which are realistic to the child's world around them.
